The Tasklist

This is where you live. Everything can be controlled via keyboard shortcuts.

You can find the Tasklist by clicking the icon in your left ribbon, or by opening the Command Palette and running the command “Open the Tasklist”. You can also set a global hotkey to open the Tasklist.

Icons

  • 📥 “Inbox” tasks which you haven’t yet processed
  • 🗓️ This task is now due
  • 🗃️ This is a project
  • ⏸️ Waiting on someone else to take an action before you can proceed
  • 💤 A “someday” task

Basic usage

Task Zero is designed to be controlled entirely by keyboard, to make processing tasks as rapid as possible. I take an opinionated approach to GTD, following David Allen’s original workflow as much as possible.

1. Process your Inbox

Start with tasks with a 📥 icon. Use the up/down arrows or j/k keys to navigate between tasks.

  • To set a task as a Next Action, highlight that row and press a.
  • To turn a task into a project, highlight that row and press p.
  • To set a task as #someday, highlight that row and press s.
  • To edit the task text or add a scheduled date, highlight a row and press Enter.
  • To complete a task, press Space.
  • To add a new task, or add a sub-task to a project, press n.

2. Work from the top down

Tasks are displayed in this order:

  1. Tasks due or overdue
  2. Inbox
  3. Projects without a Next Action
  4. Next Actions, ordered with the oldest task first
  5. Waiting-on tasks
